Last year we cruised on the Disney Wonder during the month of December and we got to celebrate my birthday on the ship as well! Not only did they bring me a special dessert during dinner, but Disney also unexpectedly gifted me a $50 credit at the Senses Spa! I probably never would have tried it otherwise, but with this coupon, I could apply it to any treatment. Having always wanted to try acupuncture, I opted to use my gift card towards this treatment and booked an hour long introductory session.

She was very professional and after placing needles on various points throughout my body, she asked if I was comfortable. Then she left for about an hour while I lay there on my back. At least I think it was about an hour, I’m not totally sure. I fell into a deep sleep. Like Snow White deep sleep. It was warm, cozy, and quiet with only the hum of light instrumental music playing. I was so comfortable and at ease I didn’t even realize I had fallen asleep until the technician came back.

Talk about dreams coming true.

After the session she offered me some highly expensive products and suggestions for acupuncture at home. Despite the up-sell at the end, I was sold with the treatment. This treatment prompted me to start seeing an acupuncturist since coming home and I’m loving life. The experience was soothing and serene. Slightly higher priced than what I would consider fair, but the discount helped bring the price down to a reasonable amount. 18% gratuity is added to all spa services.

As a cute Mickey trivia fact, the spa at the Grand Floridian and Saratoga Springs is also named Senses Spa and Salon.

Located down the hall on the opposite side of the salon is the gym. It is located on the bow of the ship and is covered ceiling to floor with windows providing you with an unobstructed view of the horizon as it sails.

Treadmills, Ellipticals, and other machines overlooking the water

The gym is two tiered. The top tier is loaded with elliptical machines, bikes and treadmills all facing the windows with an unsurpassed view. The rocking of the boat is quite minimal, but can be felt to a degree on the treadmills. The lower tier is filled with weight machines and free weights. There are also weighted balls, resistance bands and an area for stretching. You’ll also find water, potassium loaded snacks such as fresh fruit and plenty of towels to keep yourself and the machines free from dripping sweat.

Outside the gym are both male and female locker rooms. There is no charge for the lockers, and both towels and slippers are also provided to guests. Here you’ll find toiletries for use, including face lotions, hair dryers, q-tips and all the little necessities you’d require after a session at the gym. The two showers in the locker rooms offer no comparison to the showers in the cabin. In fact, after showering at the gym, I plan to never shower in my stateroom again. Keep in mind, there is a wait for the showers – for this very reason is my guess. They are large, spacious, and offer powerful water pressure. This could easily become your favorite room on the cruise.

The sauna is also an awesome and relaxing way to unwind on the cruise. I may just be a pansy, but I thought it was hot. After 10 minutes I felt like I would pass out if I didn’t leave. It is quite large and can accommodate several guests at the same time.

Many guests opt to visit the gym, or the sauna, prior to their treatments at the spa to loosen up muscles or open up their pores. We used the gym several times during our cruise and appreciated the variety of options. It was medium sized, but adequate with equipment to tone and work every major muscle group.
