Diapers On A Plane: Fifth Income and Traffic Report for November 2017
Welcome to the 5th Income and Traffic Report for diapersonaplane.com
I will just jump right into our report:
For the second month in a row we have made money!!! Not a lot, but we will take it. After our modest little earnings in October, we were unsure if we would make as much because the majority of last month’s earnings came from our Halloween posts and Amazon affiliate links.
Luckily, just a few days before the end of the month Catherine wrote the post: So You Think You Want to Fly Stand-by. It ended up being a big hit with her work Facebook group. Of our 3,332 page views over 2,000 came from that one post. Though we can’t expect that to keep up, and it hasn’t, I believe that it will continue to be a nice contributor to our traffic in the long run. It was also a big testament that we should continually to find more ways to create posts that provide a service to others apart from the great information we provide on the destinations we have visited with our family.
Because of our spike in traffic we also had a minor spike from adsense and earned our biggest return yet. We know it is not much, but we are still very excited about it.
Adsense: $4.31 ($0.66 prior month)
Amazon: $2.46 ($7.56 prior month)
Monthly earnings $6.77 ($8.22 prior month)
Pageviews: 1082 → 3332 | Goal of 2500 Met!
Visitors: 711 → 2585| Goal of 1000 Met!
Blog Posts: 147 → 178 | Goal of 178 Met!
Facebook: 119 → 146 | Goal of 200 Missed ☹
Instagram: 1308 → 1430 | Goal of 2000 Missed ☹
Pinterest: 151 → 164 | Goal of 200 Missed ☹
Twitter: 258 → 285 | Goal of 300 Missed ☹
YouTube: 10 → 11 | Goal of 20 Missed ☹
Mailing list: 14 → 17 | Goal of 30 Missed ☹
Like I mentioned earlier, we had our biggest month yet with page views and visitors. That, and the blog posts, are the goals that we were able to meet or exceed.
With continued hard work, I really believe it will continue to go up. Slowly sure, but it will continue.
Some numbers that give me confidence in things continuing to move upward are our search engine referrals. In October they were 133, whereas this month they were 251. That is nearly double the month before!
Facebook is an unfair comparison as we had 1334 referrals this month compared to last months 198, once again, mostly because of one single post.
Instagram has been slowly inching up. We post consistently, comment, like, etc… It seems to just do what it wants us to do. It’s makes us look good on the social bar, but still does not help much in bringing traffic to the blog.
Pinterest is also steadily growing. With every blog post we are creating more and better pins, so I look forward to Pinterest also reflecting our efforts. Our Halloween pins did well in October, so we have that to look forward to next year as well. We have been using Tailwind to schedule our Pinterest posts and so far it seems pretty convenient for the price. Admittedly, I don’t understand the reports enough yet, but they seem to say we are on an upward trajectory, so that sounds good. I actually just became an affiliate for Tailwind. If you are interested in checking it out, please use my affiliate link. I will make a small commission if you decide to purchase, at no extra cost to you.
Twitter has been a disappointment this month. I used crowdfire to help tweet out our posts and retweet others, but it just ended up spam tweeting everything out at the exact same time, so I deleted the app. The nice thing is it would keep looking at the blog and suggesting we post, so since deleting the app I have neglected twitter. I need to remedy that this month.
For the first month I feel like I have set goals with actionable outcomes instead of just taking a stab in the dark by writing down higher numbers and hoping we can hit them. We have gathered data and techniques that hopefully will allow our efforts to be directed and pay off.
Some things I am excited about for December:
I finally completed our logo! It’s been a long time coming, and I think it gives our site more character and credibility. I hope.
We just finished our first long overdue lead magnet in the form of a Free Packing Checklist that Catherine has created over the years to help speed up our packing process and reduce stress. Feel free to subscribe and check it out.
We did zero traveling over November so we are extra excited for the Christmas vacation we have planned during the break and with that we have some fun things planned for the blog.
Goals for December:
Instagram: 1800 followers
Facebook: 200 followers
Pinterest: 200 followers
Twitter: 350 followers
Youtube 30 followers
Mailing list: 50
Blog Posts: 200 total posts
As always, thanks for finding your way to our income/traffic report and reading all the way through it. We are always learning and trying to improve. Please, leave comments or advice in the comments below – or tell us how you would spend $6.77. I’m thinking of spending the earnings on Bacon Flavored Lip Balm for Catherine – we’d even have change to spare!!!
