Diapers On A Plane: Sixth Income and Traffic Report for December 2017
First off, Happy New Year! This marks the sixth month of Diapers On A Plane’s monthly income reports as well as the sixth month mark of our little family travel blog.
If you have read any of our past reports you will have read that we are using the income reports as a way to keep ourselves in check, make goals, and learn from our mistakes and successes.
Our blog has come along way since our first post way back in June of 2017. We have come from just an idea and turned it into something we feel really proud of! We are really excited for the future adventures and opportunities that will come from all the work we are putting into this endeavor. We are also pleasantly surprised at how many fans and fellow travelers we have already made friends with and are excited to continue to build relationships with.
2018 is going to be a big and exciting year for us and the blog. We have a lot of ideas and changes for this year that we are excited to share with everybody.
So let’s jump right into how we did for the last month of 2017.
Adsense: $.77 ($4.31 prior month)
Amazon: $-1.34 ($2.46 prior month)
Monthly earnings: $-0.57 ($6.77 prior month)
There has not been a lot of focus on monetizing our blog just yet. Our Amazon earnings from October and November were all from our Halloween posts and so it makes sense that we did not see anything coming in for December. We also lost some of those earnings after a return was made.
Catherine and I have talked for a while about making a page called the “diaper bag” where we add Amazon links to all the travel items that we have used over the years that we have purchased on Amazon. We think this would be a great resource for new family travelers.
We spent a good part of December traveling and so we still have a lot of posts to catch up on going into January. As a result, we weren’t able to focus us much on the day to day blog interactions and updates as we usually do.
So basically the blog was on cruise control this month, and though we didn’t hit the page views and numbers we did in November, we are still pushing forward at a nice pace.
Facebook: 146 → 147 | Goal of 200 Missed ☹
Instagram: 1430 → 1534 | Goal of 2000 Missed ☹
Pinterest: 164 → 179 | Goal of 200 Missed ☹
Twitter: 285 → 300 | Goal of 300 Met!
YouTube: 11 → 15 | Goal of 20 Missed ☹
Mailing list: 17 → 16 | Goal of 30 Missed ☹
After November’s awesome numbers I kept our goals pretty high. In retrospect I should have adjusted them based on previous months. We had a boost in pageviews in November primarily due to one post that was shared on Catherine’s work facebook group.
All of our social traffic took a slump. I think that is due to our not being active on the platforms during December while we were traveling.
Our search engine engagement has consistently grown by about 100 searches per month. What we hope this means is that we are doing something right with SEO.
Last month we also added a give away to our subscription invite. It pretty much did nothing in increasing our subscription numbers during December. This month I will be testing different strategies to feed our email community.
Seriously, we missed all our goals and that is a bit of a bummer, but yet we smile.
For January I definitely want to make sure that we meet all or most of our goals, but I still want to have them be a challenge.
Goals for January:
Instagram: 1800 followers
Facebook: 200 followers
Pinterest: 200 followers
Twitter: 350 followers
Youtube 30 followers
Mailing list: 50
Blog Posts: 210 total posts
We are also moving this month and taking on a new project: Our 4th House Flip! We want to document our process and are thinking a blog might just be the best way to do it. If nothing else, we like to keep things interesting.
