Our favorite buffet at Walt Disney World continues to reign supreme at Boma – Flavors of Africa located in the Animal Kingdom Lodge, Jambo House. This is not an ordinary buffet. It is authentic and exciting with foods from all over the continent of Africa. This buffet offers a wide selection of delicious vegetarian, fish and meat dishes served in an open kitchen with a wood-fire rotisserie grill.

It ranks as one of our top 5 favorite restaurants at Animal Kingdom Lodge.

We’ve dined at Boma – Flavors of Africa for both their breakfast and dinner buffet. It’s hard to choose which one we liked more. They both include an interesting variety of African food selections unique to the theme, more than 75 selections in fact. In true Disney fashion the restaurant is decked out with African colors, designs and patterns. The uniforms resemble authentic kaftans and smocks and the decor matches the Animal Kingdom and accompanying sister movie, The Lion King perfectly.

For breakfast the selection includes fruit, breakfast cakes, pastries, grains, vegetables, omelettes and meat. The best thing offered at breakfast here is the French Toast Bread Pudding served with caramel sauce. It is decadent, filling, and too tempting to resist.

Dinner offers a full selection of soups and stews from Butternut Squash Soup to Mulligatawny (whatever that is) with 13 other flavors in between. Salads, sides, and entrees are full of African native spices and seasonings including Ghana Tomato Salad, Avocado Papaya and Grapefruit Salad, Spice-crusted Sirloin, Pap Chakalaka, Kokonut Rice, Couscous, and Zulu Cabbage.

The best thing about Boma – Flavors of Africa are the Zebra Domes. Boma is famous for these chocolate mousse cakes. They come with the dinner spread, but you can also purchase them in the cafeteria’s at Animal Kingdom lodge. During our breakfast last year one of the chef’s happened to see me eyeing the zebra domes he was making for dinner and offered me an entire plate of them! I was in heaven! These little gestures are what brings the magic alive at Walt Disney World.

For Kids: This restaurant has a wide selection of food offerings including a children’s section to please just about any child and a widespread and tantalizing dessert spread. Adventurous parents tend to lend to adventurous kids. Definitely keep in mind this buffet is full of very unique offerings., but there is also a just for kids section too.

What did you think of Boma – Flavors of Africa? It’s probably not for everyone, but we loved it!
