All Nippon Airways (ANA) is one of our favorite airlines. They are a Japanese airliner headquartered in Tokyo, Japan whose slogan is ‘Inspiration of Japan’. They fly throughout the continent of Asia, heavily throughout Japan, China and Singapore, and also across the Pacific Ocean to several US Cities. They even offer a special fare for non-Japanese citizens, and themed airplanes like Star Wars, and Pokeman!
We have flown All Nippon Airways 3 times now, and we have loved it every single time! Our first flight was from Beijing, China to Tokyo, Japan through Narita Airport. Our second was from Shanghai, China to Tokyo, Japan through Haneda Airport, and then the third was the second leg of that trip from Haneda Airport down to Hiroshima.

Being that as an airline employee we fly standby, we certainly aren’t picky about the flights we take. If it’s got an open seat, or enough for me and two kids, and Gabriel can hop on another flight in a reasonable amount of time with another kid, we will take those seats on that flight no questions asked. This is not to say we don’t have our favorites though, and smile a little bigger when seats are available on specific airlines.
All Nippon Airways is one of those airlines. They are roomy, bright, clean, and tall and are extremely family friendly. Huge overhead bins for stowing luggage, plus a luggage allowance with your fare. They offer a selection of toys for each child on the flight, and they get to keep them, from coloring books to inflatable toy airplanes. Service includes delicious hard candies they offer as a treat, and encourage you to take more than one! In addition, they have a meal service and the food in the main cabin is really good, and as authentic Japanese as you can get on an airplane.
They have bidets! Bidets on an airplane! Not to mention, the bathrooms are big enough to change into a cosplay outfit! There is no trying not to touch something or not be touched by something. The larger bathrooms make it even better for changing diapers, allowing those elbows to get in the nooks and crannies. It’s just easy to go the bathroom, which should be an article of flying if you ask me.
Inflight is shockingly sweet. They smile at you with the warmest smiles you can imagine. Never once have I ever seen anyone act even slightly annoyed. And when it’s time for the flight attendants to take their seats for departure and landing, the two flight attendants bow in perfect unison before they sit down. That is the most remarkable aspect of the All Nippon Flying experience.
Some of the flights offer individual seatback TV’s, while shorter connections do not. The planes feel newer, sleeker, and well cared for than many other jets. The window shade is electronically adjusted, which admittedly took us a minute to figure out. The leg and headspace is roomy and the seats are surprisingly comfortable during a long flight.
► For Kids: This airline will make your children feel very special. The toys they offer aren’t going to withstand longevity, but they will keep them occupied throughout the flight, plus the seatback TV doesn’t offer just TV, but movies, games, and complimentary books when the TV isn’t available! Our kids loved flying ANA.
Yes, it literally feels like you are flying on a rainbow with unicorns.
► Nap-Time Version: One of the best airliners in the world. Definitely fly them if you are going to, or in Asia.
